Young Adult Carers
Who is a Young Adult Carer?
Young Adult Carers are between the ages of 18yrs - 25yrs, and look after a relative or friend, of any age, due to disability, chronic/terminal illness, mental health problem or an alcohol or drug addiction/dependency.
What issues do they face?
- Not having much free time - leisure and recreational opportunities are limited
- Struggling with college/university studies due to caring role
- Unable to get work opportunities such as training, more hours/responsibility
- Greater caring responsibilities at home
- Stress and anxiety issues
What do we do?
- The Young Adult Carers Group is a pilot scheme with a view to future funding, which enables carers of a similar age to meet on a regular basis.
- Raise awareness of young adult carers and their needs.
- Offer information and support during our meetings.
- Signpost to our locality service for further emotional support.
- Provide outings and respite opportunities to tackle the issues of isolation and social exclusion which can be faced by young adult carers.
- Help with the transition from Young Carer to Adult Carer status.
- Provide a regular newsletter containing information relevant to Young Adult Carers needs.

Meeting Dates
Meetings held at Cannock Community Fire Station
6.30pm - 8.30pm on Wednesday or Thursday evening once a month
