| INFORMATION: | The Calderdale Parent & Carers Council are parents working together to create change so all our children and young people can learn, make friends and have a voice and be part of ordinary school and community life.
The Council works with families of children and young people who have special educational /additional needs, are disabled, have emotional and behavioural difficulties or are experiencing difficulties fitting with school or community life for any reason. Members get a newsletter with the latest local and national information and are consulted on issues that both members and services have raised as priorities. Members also receive practical support and information. Both parents and their children are empowered and given a space in which to voice their issues and concerns. Members’ views are also fed back to service providers, giving recommendations for ways to improve services, raising awareness of disability and inclusion issues and promoting good practice.
The Council provides training on inclusion and working with families of disabled children and consultancy services to parent groups and professionals. |

The Centre gives help to unpaid carers living, or caring for someone who lives in York. Information and advice about its services or other useful organisations can be given over the phone, at the office, or they can arrange to see carers at home or in another suitable place. All carers registered with the Centre receive regular newsletter and discounts at local businesses. Carers who register can also use the Carers Emergency Card scheme and attend occasional social events and activities organised by the Centre.
Services for young carers (8 to 18), young adult carers (18 to 25), and carers needing help with employment, education and training are also provided by York Carers Centre. |

| INFORMATION: | Wakefield District Young Carers is a Barnardos service working with young carers from five to the age of nineteen, whose life is in some way restricted because of the need to take responsibility for the care of a person, who is ill, has a disability or is affected by substance misuse. The service also works with a wide range of people, professional and organisations to ensure awareness is raised of the existence, needs and views of carers. We work with young carers for a time limited period (6 months) to meet their needs and support them to access other activities. |
