Carers Grant

The Carers Grant forms part of the Government’s strategy for carers, set out in “Caring about Carers” 1999. The Carers Grant is designed to stimulate diversity and flexibility in provision of breaks to carers or direct services to carers to support them in their caring role.

    New Horizons is a cross-government programme of action with the twin aims to:

    improve the mental health and well-being of the population improve the quality and accessibility of services for people with poor mental health.

  • National Dementia Strategy

    The Department of Health is developing a national strategy for dementia services. This consultation draws on evidence from a wide range of reports and stakeholders, a series of listening events involving over 3,000 people and the recommendations of an External Reference Group. It invites everyone to give their views on the ideas set out in the document, as well as contribute new ideas to the debate.

    National Service Frameworks

    The National Service Frameworks set standards and define service models for a defined service or care group and then put strategies in place to support implementation. Areas targeted are:

    -blood pressure -cancer -children -chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) -coronary heart disease -diabetes -long term conditions -long term neurological conditions -mental health -older people -renal -vascular

    New Deal for Carers

    The New Deal for Carers programme was announced by the Government on 21.02.07. The package comprises a complete revision of the Carers' Strategy.
