Basic (Brain & Spinal Injuury Charity)

BASIC provides a specialist resource at the Neurocare Centre for people and their families in crisis following a traumatic brain injury or neurological diagnosis. This includes people recovering from severe head injury, brain haemorrhage, brain tumour and other brain-related conditions such as stroke and brain cancer. With over ten years experience of working with this client group we have built up specialist expertise and knowledge from the grass roots. BASIC is affiliated to the Greater Manchester Clinical Neuroscience Centre, and works in close collaboration with the staff there to meet needs of patients within the community.

Families Anonymous is a world wide fellowship of relatives and friends of people involved in the abuse of mind-altering substances, or with related behavioural problems. FA has groups, spread throughout the country, which meet regularly. Any concerned person is encouraged to attend the meetings, even if there is only a suspicion of a problem.

The Association is a national organisation in England, Wales and Northern Ireland dedicated to the support of people with MND and those who care for them.

 

MS Society

The MS Society is the UK's largest charity for people affected by Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The Society funds MS research, runs respite care centres, provides grants, education and training on MS. It produces numerous publications on MS and runs a freephone specialist Helpline.

 

MS Trust

The MS Trust is a leading independent UK charity for people with MS, their families and friends and for all health professionals who work with them. The Trust offers practical solutions including: Information about MS that is positive and constructive through the professional information service and the production of publications. Education for nurses and other health and social care professionals. Research which is practical and relevant to people who are living with MS now.

 

Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre

The Multiple Sclerosis Resource Centre (MSRC) is a charity, committed to supporting anyone affected by Multiple Sclerosis through access to unbiased information and advice. The organisation's approach is to encourage individuals to make choices that are appropriate to their daily lives, empowering them to maximise their potential.

 

Muscular Dystrophy Campaign

The organisation provides people who have neuromuscular conditions, and their families, with information and advice about their condition and ways in which living with it can be made easier. The organisation funds (with some contribution from the NHS) 11 MDC Care Advisors who are based in clinics around the country. They are on hand to give advice and support to people who are affected by neuromuscular conditions.

 

Nat Assoc for Colitis and Crohn's Disease

The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (NACC) brings together people of all ages who have Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease, their families and the health professionals involved in their care. These two illnesses are both forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and they affect about 1 in 400 people in the United Kingdom. NACC provides: support through 70 Groups; the NACC-in-Contact Support Line and individual welfare grants; an Information Service by telephone and email; a range of Information Sheets on specific topics; guidance on disability benefits and research.

 

Nat Assoc for the relief of Paget

The association offers support and information to Paget's Disease sufferers. The Association sponsors research into the causes and treatment of the disease and raises awareness of the disease among the medical profession and the public.

 

Nation Deaf Children's Society

The National Deaf Children’s Society is dedicated to providing support, information and advice for deaf children and young people, their families and professionals working with them.

 

National Asthma Campaign

The organisation helps and advises people with asthma to understand and control their condition. It also researches the condition. The organisation runs over 75 local branches throughout the UK and produces literature on all aspects of asthma. There is also a national helpline staffed by nurses.

 

National Back Pain Association

BackCare (registered as the National Back Pain Association) is an independent national charity that helps people and their carers manage and prevent back pain by providing information, promoting self help, encouraging debate and funding research into better back health.

 

National Eczema Society

The National Eczema Society is dedicated to the needs of people with eczema, dermatitis and sensitive skin. The Society provides the practical information and support needed to manage skin problem effectively. The helpline of the Information Department can provide full access to the latest information through membership, providing support for people with eczema and their carers.

 

National Osteoporosis Society

The Society provides information and support for people with osteoporosis and their carers, by promoting education for the public and health professionals.

 

Parkinson's Disease Society

The Parkinson's Disease Society has over 300 branches and support groups throughout the UK. The Society provide support, advice and information to people with Parkinson's, their carers, families and friends, and to health and social services professionals involved in management and care. The Society also funds research into the cause, cure and prevention of Parkinson's, and improvements in available treatments. The Society also develops models of good practice in service provision, such as Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialists and respite care, and campaigns for changes that will improve the lives of people affected by Parkinson's.

This association offers support for people with Padar-Willi Syndrome, their families, carers and professionals.

 

Rett Syndrome Association UK

The Association is a national charity, offering information, advice, practical help, friendship and support to people with Rett syndrome, their families and carers.

 

RNIB
The RNIB is UK’s leading charity offering information, support and advice to over two million people with sight problems. The RNIB's work helps anyone with a sight problem – not just with braille, Talking Books and computer training, but with imaginative and practical solutions to everyday challenges. Scoliosis Association UK
The Scoliosis Association (UK) is the only independent support group for scoliosis in the UK. There is no cure for scoliosis, only corrective treatment for the twisting and curving spine. SAUK aims to provide information about scoliosis, eliminate fear and stigma, and offer contacts for shared experiences, because: adolescents need support and reassurance; parents need information and contact with others who have been through the same situation; older people need help with pain and the public need to be aware of the importance of early detection of scoliosis in children.
 
Sense
Sense is a national organisation that works with and campaigns for the needs of children and adults who are deafblind, providing advice, support, information and services for them, their families, carers and the professionals who work with them.
 
Sickle Cell Society
The Society provides help and support to sickle cell sufferers and their immediate families nationwide. It promotes awareness of the condition via information leaflets, books, videos and talks.

The Association works for the prevention of stroke illness and helps sufferers. The organisation carries out a programme of research, health education, rehabilitation, welfare and information services.

 

Tuberous Sclerosis Association

The TSA provides accurate and up-to-date information about tuberous sclerosis. It can put families or individuals in touch with one another and offer advice on a range of issues associated with tuberous sclerosis, as well as recommending additional sources of help.

 

UK Thalassaemia Society

The Society aims to help in the relief of persons suffering from Thalassaemia. The promotion and co-ordination of research in connection with Thalassaemia; to educate people on the problems of Thalassaemia; to offer counselling to sufferers and carriers; to bring together patients, families and well-wishers to exchange ideas and information and to raise funds.

 

Vitiligo Society

The Vitiligo Society is the only organisation which offers support and understanding to people with vitiligo and their families in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

 

WIRED

WIRED aims to raise awareness and understanding of substance misuse, the problems it creates and the ways to deal with these problems. It develops new resources of information, support, education, training and research.
