Carers Direct

Carers Direct is a new service recently launched on NHS Choices (www.nhs.uk) as part of the government’s New Deal for Carers. The service is designed to improve support for the UK's growing number of carers. It provides carers with a single and comprehensive online resource for carer specific information, including: guidance on the different stages of caring, information for claiming benefits, advice for young carers, contact details for local authorities, news articles, and case studies with videos. As part of the service, a free telephone advice line will launch in April 2009. Future development will allow carers to receive answers to email enquiries and join online communities and forums.

 

Carers UK

The organisation provides a national voice for carers campaigning on their behalf, giving information and advice and generally support the caring role.

 

Carers World Radio

Carers World Radio provide carers with information and news to help them care. World Radio is broadcast from the UK, but as carer's face the same issues all over the world, stories and features from around the globe are included. Carers don't need to feel alone or isolated; Carers World Radio can help connect carers to information, support and the human side of the issues faced.

 

Carewatch Care Services

Carewatch provide health care services and nursing to the elderly, people with long term illness, & people with disabilities and special needs.

 

Carewell

Carewell is a partnership between Bupa, Carers UK and MEND to help carers, and the people they care for, make positive changes to be healthier and happier. Carewell is a way of helping carers continue to provide care and support to their loved ones.  This site is a pilot - just the start of the collective commitment to provide support and help to carers.

 
Crossroads Caring for Carers

A respite organisation providing home based support for carers, deputising for them so that they can take a break from their caring role. The service operates throughout Staffordshire and support every client group and every age group within the county. Crossroads seeks to provide care support workers, who integrate with the family and in particular the primary carer. EQUIP - Electronic Quality Information for Carers

The Carers section on EQUIP, managed by NHS West Midlands, has links to websites about carers and a list of support groups and services related to carers support. Each topic has a section of ‘Useful links’ - these websites have been accredited by staff at NHS West Midlands and are aimed at the public. Each topic also has a list of ‘Support groups and services’ - websites in this list have not been accredited but they may give additional information on specific topics.

Grandparents Plus

Grandparents Plus is the national charity which champions the vital role of grandparents and the wider family in children's lives - especially when they take on the caring role in difficult family circumstances.

 

Independent Age

IndependentAge helps older people on low incomes to live with dignity and peace of mind by providing: -a regular extra income -grants for emergencies -equipment to aid -independence -the support and friendship of volunteers -nursing and residential care homes

North Staffs Carers Association (NSCA)

NSCA provides information, emotional support and a voice for carers in the planning and monitoring of services. The Accociation's services are available to Carers of all ages, including Carers under the age of 18, living in North Staffordshire (Stoke on Trent, Newcastle under Lyme, Leek and the Staffordshire Moorlands).

 

Social Care Institute for Excellence - Carers Section

The Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE) was established by Government in 2001 to improve social care services for adults and children in the United Kingdom. The organisation achieves this by identifying good practice and helping to embed it in everyday social care provision. SCIE works to disseminate knowledge-based good practice guidance; involve service users, carers, practitioners, providers and policy makers in advancing and promoting good practice in social care; enhance the skills and professionalism of social care workers through our tailored, targeted and user-friendly resources. There is now a specific Carers section on this website.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is the largest provider of comprehensive carers' support services in the UK. Through its network of 118 independently managed Carers' Centres, young carers services and the interactive website , the Trust provides quality information, advice and support services to 180,000 carers including 10,300 young carers. The Trust provides training and support for Carers Centres, as well as raising funds for development work. It also has a range of grant schemes for carers, including an Educational Bursary Scheme, a Carers' Relief Fund for carers in particular financial difficulties and a Young Carers Fund. To apply for funding under any of these schemes, carers should contact their nearest Carers Centre.

 

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers Professionals Website

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers Professionals website provides information for anyone working professionally with carers. The aim is to provide access to knowledge sourced from the nationwide network of Carers Centres that will help professionals provide the best quality of support to the carers.
