Blue Badge Scheme
The Blue Badge Scheme provides a range of parking and other motoring concessions for people with severe mobility problems.  Information on this scheme is provided on the Direct Gov site.
 
Cinema Exhibitors

Holders of the card are entitled to one free ticket for a person accompanying them to the cinema. To apply for the card the person must be: in receipt of Disability Living Allowance or Attendance Allowance; be a registered blind person or be a holder of a disabled person's rail card. The card is valid for 1 year and costs £5.50 (processing fee). Get an application form from local cinemas - all major chains participate including UCI/Odeon/Showcase/Cineworld. You can also download an application form from the website. Note: All applications must be accompanied by a photo of the person with the disability and proof of entitlement.

DisabledGo provides free detailed access information for disabled people across the UK.

Essential Aids sell daily living aids to help the disabled community, the elderly and others facing mobility difficulties

 

Fledglings

Fledglings searches for products which are affordable and appropriate to meet the specific needs of disabled children and their families. Fledglings also supplies many items which are difficult to find via mail order. A brochure of products is available.

 

Hearing Direct

Mobility Trust

The Trust provides powered wheelchairs and scooters for severely disabled children and adults who cannot obtain them through statutory sources or purchase such equipment themselves. The Trust also organises medical assessments, but does not give grants.

 

Motability

Motability is a national charity, set up to assist disabled people with their mobility needs. We direct and oversee the Motability Scheme which enables disabled people to obtain a car, powered wheelchair or scooter simply by using their government-funded mobility allowances.

 

Open Britain

This website gives information on accessible accommodation and travel in the UK for people with disabilities and specific access requirements.

 

Remap

Remap is a charity, working through a nationwide network of dedicated volunteers, who help people with disabilities to achieve much-desired independence in some aspect of their lives, or to enjoy leisure opportunities previously closed to them.

 

Tunstall Response
The Lifeline service from Tunstall Response provides cost effective support to enable older and vulnerable to remain living at home independently and in safety. A Lifeline alarm enables people to call for help at the touch of a button, either when an incident occurs or when they simply need to hear a friendly voice. The service which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, offers reassurance not only to the person with the need but also to their carers and concerned family members.
 
Welcome Mobility

Welcome Mobility features a range of mobility aids. The site offers many thousands of disability and living aids including wheelchairs, grab rails, ramps and many more.

This information portal provides information for disabled people, their families, friends, carers and employers. This is a Leonard Cheshire Disability initiative.
