| INFORMATION | Volcare is a small registered charity fully funded by Social Services which offers Carers the opportunity to have home based respite care of their choice.
Full time volunteers are introduced to Carers and their families, and visit over a number of weeks in order to get to know the daily routine of care, and very importantly to establish a relationship of friendship and trust. Volcare can then offer Carers occasional whole days, weekends or even a full week of respite care. The volunteers take over the Carer’s role completely and can carry out most aspects of personal care including administration of medication, and all general day to day tasks. The volunteers work within a framework of health and safety guidelines which includes a no lifting policy but they can use hoists etc if they have the appropriate training. It is a planned service and cannot offer Carers emergency respite. Volcare is registered with the Care Quality Commission, and is inspected regularly and has to meet the government’s minimum standards of care. The service covers the Thanet, Dover and Canterbury districts and Faversham and surrounding villages. The service is free at the point of delivery to Carers and their families. |

| INFORMATION | The 121 Young Carers Project supports Young Carers aged 7-18 year olds in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley. We offer regular chill clubs in each area, where young carers meet, eat, play team games, do arts and crafts, play Nintento Wii, chill out and chat. We also provide other fun respite activities such as horse-riding, cinema, bowling, theme parks, trampolining, camping, and of course go to the famous Young Carers Festival in Southampton.
The project also works in schools to raise awareness and supports Young Carers via lunchtime drop-ins. The project contains a specific programme for 15-18 year olds called Evolve to ensure their transition into adulthood is successful by providing age appropriate activities including support around careers and education, and peer mentoring. The Young Carers Forum is a great opportunity for the young carers themselves to steer the project and learn new skills, like writing fundraising bids, and chairing the meetings. |
